Luke James @ Le K.A.B Paris
Assembling, disrupting, and sharing are the core intentions behind Luke James’s work. An oeuvre that oscillates between generous minimalism and conceptual magic. First discovered through the Révélations Emerige, his work explores the tensions between the world and its games, between insolence and dread. A palpable frugality emanates from his practice: the artist heats, presses, and cuts the material, which yields to, and resists his every move in a constant, physical struggle.
His sculpture consists of an assemblage of scavenged materials, manufactured or natural elements, construction materials, or currency, combining meticulousness with technical prowess. His work often laughs and binds, seeking to translate the forces that connect us, the reality of beings who coexist and possess tangible presence. His sculpture is as much the imprint of a hand in burning wax as it is the clean cut of wood; it is a form that embodies the labor involved rather than merely revealing it. Here, everything is constantly begun anew.
